NEWARK BOOK FESTIVAL
(8 - 11 JULY 2021) - This event is now over

The Newark Book Festival theme for 2021 was Our Stories, so on behalf of the festival organisers we invited you to come along to share your stories, of home, of heritage, of young people, how to stay happy and what you have been reading. If you were lucky enough to go to the festival in person or were able to watch the events online we were very grateful to welcome you to celebrate together and remember those that have been lost.

AN INTERVIEW WITH DAVID BALDACCI (WITH TIM RIDEOUT)

We were delighted to welcome David Baldacci to our living rooms. One of the world’s bestselling and favourite thriller writers, he had sold over 150 million books worldwide. Tim Rideout interviewed David and gained insight into his latest two novels: A Gambling Man – the second novel featuring Aloysius Archer which evokes the golden age of crime, and Daylight, the gripping follow up novel featuring Special Agent Atlee Pine.

JESS KIDD – EVERYDAY MAGIC

This event was for schools or home educators. Jess discussed her first children’s book EVERYDAY MAGIC, introducing the main characters, themes and gave ideas for fun spells. She also gave a taster of the story with a few short readings. There was time at the end for a Q&A session covering everything about EVERYDAY MAGIC and writing books – magical and otherwise! Nottinghamshire author, Becky Goddard-Hill, talked about what the world would be like if everyone was kind to each other. Becky’s book is aimed at children from 7 – 12 years old. Create Your Own Kindness encourages children to be kind to themselves, other people and the outside world. The perfect companion to Create Your Own Happy and Create Your Own Calm, empowering children to shape their lives and the lives of others around them.

MY SHAHA MARVELLOUS MACHINES WITH ALOM SHAHA

SATURDAY 10 JULY 2021 1PM – 2PM BST – (This event is now over)

Children’s author, Alom Shaha, talked about his fabulous book – plus, everyone coul join in and have a go by following the simple steps to build toys which fly, spin, whizz, and pop. To encourage recycling and re-use, everything in the book is made from household items you’ve probably got lying around. At the heart of the book is the idea that we don’t have to be buying new, instead we can make and learn about engineering and science at the same time. Discover the joy of making, and develop your creativity, scientific thinking, problem solving, and practical skills with Mr Shaha’s Marvellous Machines. This event was in association with the Nottingham Festival of Science and Curiosity.

Recommended Ages: 5-12 years and their grown ups.

RABBIT HOLE – MARK BILLINGHAM IN CONVERSATION WITH TIM RIDEOUT

SUNDAY 11 JULY 2021 7PM – 8PM BST – (This event is now over)

Giles Kristian - Author

Bestselling and award-winning author, Mark Billingham, joined in virtually for an interesting and entertaining evening. Tim Rideout chatted to Mark about his 20th Tom Thorne Thriller, Cry Baby, as well as his new standalone novel Rabbit Hole – described as “shocking, original and completely unpredictable”. This was multi-million bestseller Mark Billingham at his unconventional and challenging best. It was a great way to close the 2021 Festival!​
