STORY-TELLING, SCENE SHOWING

It’s your story but your job is not to tell, but to show it – what does that mean and how do you separate the two? In this workshop we’ll look at how storytellers get out of the way and let the stories speak for themselves.

Saturday 20 May 2023 - 10:45 to 12:45

STORYSMITH - CHARACTER, CONFLICT AND CONTEXT

What qualifies a seemingly ordinary character to take centre stage in your story? How do you create a worthy opponent? In this workshop we’ll look at protagonists and antagonists, the qualities and flaws in both so you can be confident you’ve got your team lined up to tell your best story.

Since publication of her novels in the early noughties Adrienne has taught and talked about the craft of storytelling at writers’ festivals, in prisons and hospices, and written articles about storytelling and oddly, Series One Land Rovers. She is a renowned creative writing tutor who has inspired hundreds, if not thousands, of writers over the years. After her workshop at our I AM Writing Festival in June 2022 feedback suggested her course was one of the best they had ever attended.
