CHILDREN'S WRITING FOR ALL AGES

How the tenets of good writing for young readers work for all kinds of writing

Ali Sparkes is a multi-award-winning children’s author, journalist and comedy writer. Her experiences across regional press, BBC local and national radio, traditional and untraditional fiction- and even the current trends in multiplatform content writing – have led her to a startling conclusion:

If you can write well for a nine-year-old, you can write well for anyone.

Ali will lead a high-octane mash-up of interactive presentation and workshop to take writers of all ambitions through the fundamental underpinning of all writing – engagement.

Be prepared to muck in, collaborate and share… and possibly get hypnotised.

Ali has had more than 50 children’s and YA books published, mostly with Oxford Children’s Books. Her novel Frozen In Time was winner of the Blue Peter Award, Car-Jacked was runner up in the UK National Children’s Book Prize and Wishful Thinking was Carnegie longlisted. Her first comedy play Tess of the Tollbooth – starring Shappi Khorsandi – will be aired on BBC Radio 4 and BBC Sounds in December 2023. She also writes crime fiction under the pseudonym A D Fox.
