BEING PUBLISHED: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT EDITING

So, you’ve found an agent or a publisher – but what happens next? If you’re hoping to turn your hobby into a career, this workshop will give you the lowdown on the editorial and publishing processes in a typical publishing house. From how the decision to acquire a book gets made through to who else will read final page proofs, discover how to make your publishing experience as rewarding as possible.

We will cover the stages of editing, including understanding house style and how copy-editing differs from structural and line editing and proofreading. We’ll also look at a standard critical path so you know what to expect when, from delivery of manuscript onwards. Agents and publishers don’t always have time to hand-hold debut novelists through the publishing process – if you’d like to know what to expect from your editor, come along.
